COPREM is a receptor model, which means that it carries out some mathematical or statistical procedures to identify and quantify sources of air pollutants. Thus, the model unites properties and results from several different models.

There are two main branches within receptor models. One branch deals with chemical data and the other mathematical data. Generally, there are some uncertainties associated with these models that COPREM takes into account.

COPREM is a hybrid receptor model that combines qualities of the two branches. COPREM gives more insight and gives better control over the final mathematical solutions, but also requires more data to work with.
