The largest source to the emission of CO₂ in the timeseries is the energy sector, which includes combustion of fossil fuels like oil, coal and natural gas. The transport sector (dominated by road transport) has been the largest sector since 2017. The CO₂ emission (excl. LULUCF) is generally decreasing. The largest fluctuations in the emission trend occurs for the energy industries, the main reason for this is the varying consumption of fossil fuels due the electricity trade with neigh-bouring countries.
