Villum Research Station

VILLUM RESEARCH STATION is located at the military station, Station North, in North Greenland. At the station, researchers come from all over the world. Their stay is related to the research program described by the individual researchers and subsidized from home and approved by the station. The station is thus financed through the taxes that the researchers pay for their stay. Data from the atmospheric surveillance program is provided free of charge to researchers working at the Villum Research Station and the researchers are required to make their data available to other researchers.

The climate station is owned by the Greenlandic government and is run by Aarhus University. The station is established on the basis of funds from the Danish private fund Villum Fonden. Villum Research Station is located approx. 2 km outside Station Nord. Here, a long series of climate-relevant parameters are measured: air temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, short wave incoming and outgoing radiation and net radiation. In addition, a large number of air pollutants are measured, which are either found in gas phase or particle phase. Likewise, physical parameters of particles are measured, for example, their absorption, particle size, distribution and concentration.
