The project aims to quantify to what extent people are willing to sort their household wastes and to investigate the different factors that influence their preferences for waste separation.

The project consist of five tasks:

1)      Literature review to ensure that the project takes advantage of the newest research in the field. Furthermore, within this task, the project develops questions for the planned survey and information material for the questionnaire as well as making decisions on sampling approach.

2)      Development of choice experiment set up. Within this task, the project will identify a selection of choice attributes, provide clear definition of each of the attributes, and determine the levels of the attributes. The process is primarily informed by insights from the existing body of literature as well as inputs from relevant experts and practitioners. The selected attributes will then be tested out with a number of people and the outcomes of the testing provide basis for revisions. What follows is to formulate the design of the choice experiment.

3)      Design of a pilot study based on a household survey.

4)      Collection of data through market research company. The project aims for completed surveys from 1000 respondents.

5)      Write up of the results and lessons learned.
