The agricultural sector includes emissions from production of livestock and emissions related to cultivation of agricultural areas. The emission reporting is basically reported in two groups, air pollutants and greenhouse gasses. The primary air pollutants from the agricultural sector is ammonia and particulate matter. Greenhouse gas emissions is primarily CO2, CH4 and N2O. The inventories are compiled to fulfil the Danish obligations under EU directives, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution (UNECE CLRTAP).
The greenhouses gases from the agricultural related activities is divided in two sectors, Agriculture and LULUCF – Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry. The agricultural sector cover CH4 from livestock production, N2O from nitrogen turnover related to cultivation of crops and CO2 from liming. The agricultural related emissions from the LULUCF sector cover primarily CO2 and CH4 emissions from land related activities and mainly the two subsectors Cropland and Grassland is relevant.
Emissions related energy use as agricultural machinery is included in the energy sectors.
Emission from livestock production depends on type of animal and its feed consumption, feed utilization, the housing system and how the excreted animal manure is treated (solid or liquid). The relevant pollutants are; methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOC), ammonia (NH3), nitrogen oxides (NOX) and particles (PM2.5, PM10 and TSP).
