Welcome to Pere Colomer Vidal
New Postdoc at MITO from 1 April 2026.
Research
My research focuses on persistent organic pollutants (POPs), with a particular emphasis on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). I study their occurrence, behaviour, and environmental and human exposure using advanced analytical techniques, including target, suspect, and non-target screening approaches based on high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS).
I have extensive experience in the analysis of environmental and biological samples, as well as in designing sampling campaigns and processing complex datasets. My work aims to better understand contaminant sources, pathways, and risks, contributing to improved environmental monitoring and protection strategies.
Profile
I am a postdoctoral researcher in environmental analytical chemistry with a background in studying persistent pollutants and their impact on ecosystems and human health. I completed my PhD at the University of Barcelona (UB) in collaboration with IDAEA-CSIC, including an extended research stay at the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry (Chinese Academy of Sciences).
After my PhD, I worked at CIB-CSIC on interdisciplinary projects related to plastic degradation, and later at IQOG-CSIC, where I further developed my expertise in POPs. I have also carried out international research stays in Serbia and Brazil, and I actively collaborate within international research networks.
I am particularly interested in combining analytical chemistry with data analysis and environmental assessment, and I enjoy working in collaborative and interdisciplinary environments.
Job responsibilities
At the Department of Environmental Science, I will contribute to research on chemical pollution and human exposure, with a focus on PFAS and related substances. My work will support target and non-target analysis using advanced chromatographic and HRMS techniques, as well as developments in fluorine mass balance approaches and QA/QC standardisation.
I will also contribute to ongoing projects within the Danish PFAS Research Centre, supporting research activities, data interpretation, and scientific dissemination. Additionally, I will be involved in publishing results, presenting findings at conferences, and potentially supervising students and collaborating with partners and stakeholders.
