Topic 1: FAIRMODE

FAIRMODE stands for Forum for Air Quality Modelling in Europe. It is a network of air pollution modellers designed to support modellers when they work in the context of the EU Air Quality Directive. FAIRMODE was established in 2008, and it is a joint action by EEA and JRC/Ispra.

FAIRMODE is producing some tools and guidelines. It notably works with:

  • Benchmarking of models for air pollution assessment. A benchmarking tool (Delta Tool) is available.
  • Urban emission inventories . An “emission tool” is avaliable.
  • Source apportionment. A guide is available.

FAIRMODE is an open network, but there are also official national representatives. Helge Rørdam Olesen is Danish national representative. He will give a brief overview of the activities within FAIRMODE.

Topic 2: Residential wood combustion

For residential wood combustion it is a challenge to assess real-world emissions. There is potential for large discrepancies between, on the one side, the emissions that we assume for modelling purposes, and on the other, real-world emissions. Helge Rørdam Olesen will outline an idea to arrange a seminar as a catalyst to stimulate work within that area.

Language: the presentation will be made in English
