Utilization of household waste is an important element in the development of more circular resource flows, and optimal utilization of household waste requires source separation. In this talk I will present results from recently published study of waste separation in apartment buildings. Findings suggest a widespread societal norm that individuals have a responsibility to separate their waste. Whether such a norm is enacted in practice depends on a number of factors, including the maintenance of infrastructures by caretakers. If time allows it, I will also offer some meta-reflections regarding an on-going project about valorization of bio-waste.
