Abstract: Meteorological data are a very important input to the air pollution models at ENVS. Two different meteorological models, the Fifth-Generation Penn State/NCAR Mesoscale Modeling System (MM5) and NCEP’s ETA, have until now been run internal at the institute since 1997/1998 in order to provide these inputs with a high temporal and spatial resolution. These two models will sometime in the future be replaced with a newest state-up-the-art meteorological weather forecast model, Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF), which in reality are in two different versions: the Advanced Research WRF version (ARW), which is developed by NCAR/MMM (Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Division), and the operational forecasting version (the Nonhydrostatic Mesoscale Model WRF, NMM), which is developed by NCEP/EMC (Environmental Modeling Center).  In this seminar there will be given a short overview of the existing used meteorological models, MM5 and ETA, and more extended overview of the new model, WRF. Some examples with results from the new WRF system based on the Advanced Research WRF version will be presented at the seminar.
