Profile

Matthias Ketzel is Professor in the Section of Atmospheric Modelling at the Department of Environmental Science, Aarhus University and Visiting Professor at the Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE), University of Surrey, U.K. He received his PhD from Lund University, Sweden. He has a background in physics and fluid dynamics and has more than 30 years of experience within the field of atmospheric science and in  human exposure assessment and local scale atmospheric dispersion modelling.

Research

Atmospheric dispersion, aerosol dynamics modelling and human exposure estimation at regional, urban and street scale with strong focus on particles and gaseous air pollutants. Using e.g. microscale model MISKAM or street canyon model OSPM and the DEHM/UBM/AirGIS exposure modelling system.

Teaching activities

Head of PhD Programme at AU-ENVS, Main or co-supervisor for 9 PhD and 5 MSc/BSc students. Invited lecturer in courses at Roskilde University, Technical University of Denmark, Texas A&M University at Qatar, Surrey University, Southeast University, Nanjing, China and at a COST action Training School. Regularly teaching students about modelling local air pollution and use of the OSPM, AirGIS system and OML-Highway. Opponent and reviewer for PhD/MSc projects.

Collaborations

Member of the steering committee for the initiative on Harmonisation within Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for Regulatory Purposes.  Danish national representative in the EU FAIRMODE initiative, a CEN working group.
