ESGO Partners with Environment for Development (EfD)

We are excited to announce that the Environmental Social Science and Geography (ESGO) section at the Department of Environmental Sciences at Aarhus University is now partnering with Environment for Development (EfD).

EfD is a global network of environmental economics research centers dedicated to addressing the world’s most pressing environmental and development challenges. With a strong focus on the Global South, EfD promotes evidence-based policy through high-impact research, capacity development, and policy engagement.

Since its establishment in 2007, EfD has grown into a vibrant community of over 200 leading environmental economists. Its research centers span 11 countries across the Global South: Chile, Central America, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam. Each center is hosted by a prominent local academic institution, enabling deep regional engagement and relevance.

EfD also maintains strong collaborations with top-tier global universities, including Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy, Wageningen University & Research, University College Dublin, the Toulouse School of Economics Energy and Climate Center, and the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change at the Potsdam Institute.

This partnership provides a unique opportunity to broaden ESGO’s research impact, particularly across Africa, where EfD has established influential policy networks. Together, ESGO and EfD will advance sustainable development through joint research initiatives, capacity building, and policy innovation—fostering green transitions and climate resilience in developing regions.

We look forward to the meaningful collaborations and new research opportunities this partnership will create.
