My research focuses primarily on environmental policy analyses and governance. E.g. through analyses of the effectiveness of environmental policies and policy instruments and analyses of implementation barriers and target group behavior. The research is primarily funded through, national, Nordic, and EU programmes/institutions. I have been part of >40 research projects which have obtained in total >€40M funding. I am an experienced project manager, and is the departments Head of Section for Environmental Social Science and Geography.
I am head and developer (since 2022) of a learning programme ‘Environmental Governance at local level’ for Danida Fellowship Centre under the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs - a programme designed towards employees in local environmental administrations in developing and transition countries. I teach (since 2013) at the master in Water and Environment at the Sino-Danish University in Beijing, China. I am Adjunct professor at University of Saskatchewan, Canada (since 2023), where I teach at the Master in Chemical Risk Assessment and Problem Formulation
I have collaborated in research projects with more than 100 research institutions across the world, and additionally cities, municipalities, regions, and private partners. Currently, I am involved in broad international research projects on river-basin management in Ghana (CREAM project), Nature-based solutions in EU and China (REGREEN project), wetland restoration projects in Sweden and Denmark (ENGAGE4WET project) and Ukraine towards carbon neutrality (U_CAN project).
I have extensive experience in advising national and EU authorities
