dr. Vestergaard focuses on inflammatory skin diseases, particularly atopic eczema (childhood eczema), psoriasis, and blistering disorders e.g. bullous pemphigoid. A specific area of interest is how these diseases present and are managed by GP's– including the challenges faced by both general practitioners and patients. Additionally, the research includes the prevalence of skin diseases in specific patient groups, especially among pregnant women and patients with multiple autoimmune diseases
Christian Vestergaard teaches Dermatology and Venereology in the medical degree program. He is actively involved in postgraduate education for future specialists in Dermatology, Pulmonary Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) diseases. With the Danish Medical Education Fund (LUF), Christian Vestergaard organizes an annual one-week dermatology continuing education course for general practitioners. Also, Christian’s laboratory hosts PhD, master’s, and bachelor’s students.
I collaborate across departments internally at Aarhus University Hospital and Aarhus University, but given that dermatology is such a small field, collaboration must also extend nationally – involving other regions and university hospitals – as well as internationally across the globe.
